ATHLETIC HERNIA

Prof. Dudai was one of the first in the world to develop and apply the laparoscopic approach to repairing hernia for athletes and sports injuries in the groin and abdominal muscles. He has successfully treated this method in hundreds of athletes.
Prof. Dudai has developed a dedicated ENDOSCOPIC surgery for athletes. Prof. Dudai has developed an innovative surgery for muscle separation in the abdominal wall and integration into hernias.
Moshe Dudai explains why the hernia of athletes is different from a ‘normal’ hernia
This injury is caused due to strenuous exercise and load that are not adapted to the capacity of the lower abdominal and pelvic muscles. The injury appears in athletes from all sports, but appears with a particularly high frequency in soccer and football players. The pains appear while coming out of a run, acceleration, a sharp change of direction in a run or a strong kick on the ball. The pain also appears during sneezing or a strong cough as well as at night while making posture changes in bed.
As sports injury specialist surgeon, Dr. Duda is able through physical examination to diagnose the findings typical of athletes’ hernia. These findings are unique only to the hernia of athletes and different from those of a normal hernia that any surgeon can diagnose. The injury usually appears on both sides although most of the athlete feels more pain on one side. It is very common for an athlete to consult a general surgeon and this does not diagnose hernia as the findings of normal hernia in the groin are different from those of athletes.
To verify the diagnosis, a special dynamic ultrasound examination must performed for this type of injury. The dynamic ultrasound examination can demonstrate the weakness of the posterior wall, its protrusion forward, and the various other damages created due to the injury like confinement of fat in the rupture created. This examination must be performed in person by an ultrasound specialist who specializes in sports injuries and hernia of athletes.

DR. DUDAI’S UNIQUE TECHNIQUE

The ENDOSCOPIC method, developed from Laproscopic surgery, has opened a new era in surgery and made surgery a much less traumatic event for the patient and his family, an event that does not neutralize and take him out of the cycle of life for an extended period of time. In a large part of the surgeries, the patient is discharged home on the day of the operation, the next day, or in extreme cases after two days. The patient is able to return to his normal activities after a few days.

‘NO SCAR’ SURGERY

Over the years the ENDOSCOPIC method, a vast improvement over Laparoscopic surgery, has been applied to almost all types of surgeries and most of them have proven significant advantages over the open method if the surgery is performed skilfully by an expert in the field. The general rules are:
^

Aesthetic appearance better post-surgery due to lack of scar

^

Avoidance of extensive infections in the surgical incision

^

Avoidance of large fissures in surgical scars

^

Reduced pain after surgery that does not require narcotic drugs

^

Short hospital stays and fast recovery time

^

Slight complications in general body systems

^

No adhesions are formed that can cause future bowel obstructions, fertility problems or make it difficult for repeat surgeries

^

Better surgical results especially when the surgery is performed by a specialist with experience in laparoscopy

About Dr. Moshe Dudai

Hernia Surgery – Hernia can be performed by any surgeon however for some time now the subject of hernia surgery has become a specific specialty like other known surgeons in surgery. A hernia specialist is considered a surgeon whose significant surgical work is hernia surgery and his surgical results are better than those of the known average. The most important part of the surgery that requires the maximum skill of the surgeon is the installation of the mesh in the inner wall of the abdomen accurately. To ensure and achieve these results, the surgeon must be a specialist with proven experience in hernia repair, laparoscopic and endoscopic hernia repair.
